How much do you need?
Step 1: Measure your bed(s).
Measure the length and width of your mulch beds.
If you don’t have a tape measure, you can measure in strides (the average full stride for an adult is 3 feet). Enter the numbers (in feet) below.
Step 2: Determine the depth.
Determine how deep you want to spread your mulch.
The Mulch Company recommends a depth of 4 inches for newly-mulched areas; less if you are simply topping off your beds. Enter the number (in inches) below.
The calculator then determines the amount of mulch you will need.
Step 3: Have any obstacles?
Allow for large obstacles within the mulch beds (large shrubs, water features, or paved areas).
Simply, if half your bed is filled with plants and shrubs, then divide your order in half.
If you are having mulch delivered, it makes sense to round up your mulch order, rather than ordering too little. It’s usually easy to find a place to spread any leftover mulch!
